Recently, the company that hired me had a discussion about integrating a robust business intelligence tool to solve our reporting needs. I was given the task to check out the different vendors in the market place and make a decision on their positive qualities along with any negatives I noticed. I first began my search online and searched for BI solutions. The first couple of companies that were on the search results had decent solutions but one company in particular stood in out in terms of having a complete open source reporting solution, that company was Actuate. As I browsed the website, I came across a variety of information about how their software works along with demos and examples of BIRT in action. I was very intrigued with their offering and decided to download a trial version of their software. We are currently running the software and our junior developers are creating reports very easily. I plan to evaluate other vendors before making a final decision but this company definitely has a similar solution to what we are looking for at the moment.
