There were concerns with USB 2.0 devices. The transfer rate of earlier versions of controllers was actually a problem. ASMedia has its USB 3.0 controller available now. Although it is early to comment if USB 3.0 compliant drives would be available too soon. Many data centers wanted to adopt to USB based storage devices but could not do so because the data transfer speed was not suitable for the applications. Now the future USB 3.0 offers better rate of transmission and offers more control over the data. ASMedia is testing the devices and the data issues. Almost all the data centers had in past the issues to deal with drive failures. Certainly failing media devices are no good news. New version of USB is supposed to provide greater options and higher speed. If it becomes a reality in the market, soon you would see more devices which require the data access to function would be converted to new USB. It will save money which goes into buying the costly hard drives for servers and desktops. USB powered devices are cheaper than cable ones. USB as technology has been accepted by all major vendors. The new version is exciting news. The devices would be made around that and must be available soon.
